2006 APA Preconvention Workshop

CBT and IPT: Two Empirically Supported Psychotherapies for Late-Life Depression (WS Code: Preconv #1) Wednesday, August 9, 2006

Workshop Description

This INTERMEDIATE workshop reviews two empirically supported treatments for late-life depression: cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT). The workshop will begin with a summary of the state of research on psychotherapies that have demonstrated utility in the treatment of depression in older adults. The presenters will review the therapeutic goals, strategies, and techniques of both CBT and IPT. Common problems in the implementation of these psychotherapies will be discussed and suggestions made on how to address those problems. The use of clinical cases, videotaped material, and audience participation will be integral to the workshop.
