JOBS: Two Positions in the School of Aging Studies, University of South Florida

The School of Aging Studies at the University of South Florida invite applications for two tenure-track Assistant Professor positions available beginning in August, 2013. We seek researchers from broad research areas related to aging. The candidates’ expertise in such research area(s) will be expected to complement the existing strengths in the School of Aging Studies which are: Aging and Health; Cognitive Aging and Alzheimer's Disease; Aging and Mental Health; and Public Policy and Long-Term Care. We have a particular emphasis on applied research that is aimed at improving clinical practice, public policy, and the well-being of older adults and their families. Successful candidates for these positions will have earned doctoral degrees in gerontology or a related field at the time of appointment and will have demonstrated expertise in research and teaching, and potential for training doctoral students in that field. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in the PhD in Aging Studies Program by mentoring students and teaching courses. Preference will be given to applicants with a strong publication record in relevant peer-reviewed journals, and evidence of potential for obtaining external research funding. Salary is negotiable.

 

The School of Aging Studies has 13 highly productive faculty with over 100 publications in 2011 and over $3.4 million in external funding. The School has a very strong record of successfully mentoring and tenuring junior faculty. The School of Aging Studies offers BA, BS and MA degrees and hosts the interdisciplinary PhD program in Aging Studies. The School of Aging Studies, which includes the Florida Policy Exchange Center on Aging, has been described by the President of the University of South Florida as “one of our top priorities and is one of the University of South Florida’s beacons of excellence.”

 

The University of South Florida is a metropolitan-based Research I university enrolling more than 41,000 students. The School of Aging Studies also hosts the Collaborative on Aging, a university-wide consortium of faculty who focus on the study of aging including faculty from many units on the campus, including the Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, the Byrd Alzheimer’s Institute, the Florida Mental Health Institute, the Health Sciences Center, and the Center for Hospice, Palliative and End of Life Studies.  Further information about our aging programs is available at http://agingstudies.cbcs.usf.edu/.
