ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON SUCCESSFUL AGING
Promoting Successful Aging and Brain Health
Department of Psychology and the Evelyn F. McKnight Brain Institute

GOOD FOR THE HEART, GOOD FOR THE BRAIN:
ENHANCING COGNITIVE FUNCTION AS WE AGE
This year's conference will be the first in annual series that will focus on successful aging and brain health. We will review the science of successful aging, providing participants with the most up-to-date research that is available, as well as practical ways to incorporate the science of successful aging into their daily lives.
Objectives include:
 To educate participants with practical ways to incorporate successful aging in their daily lives.
 To provide health-care workers with methods for helping older adults age successfully.
 To review the science of successful aging and educate participants about ongoing UA research initiatives.
Topics include:
 Exercise – The cognitive benefits of aerobic fitness, strength training, and balance exercises
 Healthful eating – How diet and (some) supplements promote brain health
 Brain fitness – The effectiveness of cognitive exercise and cognitive strategies
 Stress reduction – How stress reduction can influence well-being and cognitive functioning
 Wisdom and emotional balance – Unwrapping the gifts of age
Who should attend? All members of the community, of any age, who are interested in learning about successful aging, as well as health-care workers who interact with older adults. Audience level is intermediate.
