JOBS: Professor and Director of the Gerontology Center, Penn State University

Please note this opportunity for a senior person to take on a leadership position in Gerontology at Penn State University.

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) and the College of Health and Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University invite applications for a position as Professor and Director of the Gerontology Center. The Department and the Gerontology Center have a long and exceptional record of contributions in substantive areas of research and methodological advances in adult development and aging. We are looking for a senior faculty member to continue this tradition by providing leadership in developing new and innovative programs of research in adult development and aging, as well as for educational programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. This person should have an outstanding record of scholarship in an area of adult development and aging, a strong record of external funding, and the capability to bring together groups of scholars from different disciplines around new research initiatives. As a member of the HDFS Department, this person will also teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students. An earned doctorate in the behavioral or social sciences is required.

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (<outbind://http://www.hhdev.psu.edu/HDFS/>http://www.hhdev.psu.edu/HDFS/) focuses on individual development from infancy through old age, on family structure and dynamics, on the impact of social/cultural contexts on development and family functioning, and on the design and evaluation of interventions to promote development. A strong research and training program in developmental and prevention methodology is integrated into the Department's research and education activities. The Department's multidisciplinary faculty includes expertise in developmental, clinical and health psychology, human development and family studies, sociology, demography, education, and methodology.

The Penn State Gerontology Center is located administratively in the College of Health and Human Development and has a University-wide mission to encourage the development of research, education, and outreach in adult development and aging. The primary role of the Director is to identify promising research initiatives and bring together innovative, interdisciplinary teams of faculty from across the University to develop research and training programs. To be successful in this role, it is important that the Director has a strong research portfolio and enjoys collaborating and making collaborations happen. The Director is also responsible for directing educational and outreach programs of the Center.
