The National Institute on Aging (NIA), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is recruiting for two Intramural Research Postdoctoral Training Award Postdoctoral positions in the Laboratory of Personality and Cognition (LPC) (Chief, Dr. Paul T. Costa).

Position 1: The candidate will work in close collaboration with Senior Investigators and scientists in the Personality, Stress and Coping Section of LPC. Major duties involve analysis of data from existing datasets on the association of personality traits to test hypotheses and write papers on personality and its links to a wide array of outcomes including subjective and objective indices of well-being, Axis I and Axis II disorders and other health outcomes with attention to the role of life events, social network, and psychobiological variables. Research expertise in the analysis of psychosocial and health-related variables associated with personality traits is desirable.

Position 2: The ideal candidate will have a very strong quantitative background and be highly proficient in use of specialized statistical programs to work on several ongoing projects that involve the analysis of behavioral genetic data. A major focus will involve examination of genetic influences on personality in old age and the joint influences of genetics and personality in health in old age in the NAS-NRC WWII Twins Registry.

Additional duties involve working in support of LPC scientists on a collaborative study in Sardinia which involves the analysis of full human genome data to identify QTLs underlying the major domains and facets of personality. PhD in behavior genetics is highly desirable as is expertise in statistical genetics.

Interested candidates must have a Ph.D. or M.D. with less than five years of postdoctoral research experience as indicated in the position duties outlined above. Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Starting salary range is $38,500 to $42,600 for individuals with 1 year or less of relevant experience; starting salary range is $43,100 to $54,100 for individuals with 4 to 5 years of relevant experience. Annual performance based increases of $1,000 to $2000 may be granted.
