INFO: Nominations sought, Working Group on Cultural Competency in Geropsychology

The American Psychological Association Committee on Aging (CONA) is seeking nominations for membership on the Working Group on Cultural Competency in Geropsychology. The Working Group will prepare a comprehensive report on the issue of multicultural competence in geropsychology addressing practice, research, training and public policy issues. The group will also develop recommendations to increase attention, research and programs to address the needs and support the contributions of culturally diverse elders.

CONA seeks individuals with dual substantive interest and expertise in multicultural aging and geropsychology. The APA places high priority on seeking and maintaining representation within the Working Group's membership that reflects the diversity of psychology and society (e.g., persons representing various ages, ethnicities, cultures, genders, abilities, and sexual orientations; individuals with experience in research, clinical training, practice, policy, advocacy and education; and early-, mid-, and late- career psychologists

Participation on the Working Group will involve one 2-1/2 day meeting in Washington DC during the spring of 2007, with expenses to be paid by APA. Members are expected to continue work on Working Group related activities following the meeting through 2007.

Nomination materials including a letter indicating willingness to serve and requisite expertise, and a current CV must be received by March 2, 2007. These materials should be sent to the attention of Deborah DiGilio, Director of APA Office on Aging, at ddigilio@apa.org.
