INFO: Reviewers Needed for PsycCRITIQUES

Subject: Reviewers Needed for PsycCRITIQUES

Date: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 09:26:30 -0600

From: "Pearce, Chris" PsycCritiques@mimh.edu

Dear Dr. Charness,

I am writing on behalf of Danny Wedding, Editor of PsycCRITIQUES (formerly Contemporary Psychology). Danny is committed to finding reviewers with the appropriate expertise for the more than 900 book and film reviews we will be publishing each year. To that end, we would appreciate your assistance, as president of the Division of Adult Development and Aging, in encouraging psychologists from your division who would be interested in reviewing for the journal to sign up at our Reviewer Portal at http://www.jbo.com/cprs_reviewer/

At this site, they can provide contact information, indicate their broad and specialized areas of interest, and upload a vita. They will then periodically get an email with a link to a list of books available for review. Those who write reviews for us receive free access to PsycCRITIQUES for 1 year, beginning with publication of their review.

For your convenience, please find below a boilerplate letter, and general information about the journal is available at http://www.apa.org/psyccritiques/. We thank you in advance for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Christine Pearce, Editorial Assistant

PsycCRITIQUES Seeks Book Review Volunteers

If you are an avid reader of psychology books, I would like to ask you to consider being a regular book reviewer for PsycCRITIQUES (the online incarnation of Contemporary Psychology). I am the Editor for PsycCRITIQUES, and I'm working with APA staff to identify psychologists to review current copyright year books.

We want to pull together a cohesive team of psychologists who love to read and have one or more areas of expertise because of regularly reading a large number of books published each year in a given specialty area. If you are willing to commit to doing one or more book reviews per year, I would like to include you in the reviewer database of those who get e-mail lists of books to potentially review. When you publish a review, you will receive free access to PsycCRITIQUES for 1 year, and those who write at least four high-quality reviews in one year will be appointed to the PsycCRITIQUES editorial board for the next year.

I am looking for more than simple content summaries, and I hope you'll aspire to writing the kind of reviews one might find in psychology's version of the New York Review of Books. Each PsycCRITIQUES review should strive to embed the work reviewed in the context of broader scholarship in the area addressed by the book, as well as describing and reviewing the book.

Anyone willing to make a commitment to working as part of the PsycCRITIQUES team is encouraged to contact me via the following URL, http://www.jbo.com/cprs_reviewer/ (note the underscore between “cprs” and “reviewer”). From this site, you will be able to provide your contact information, your broad and specialized areas of expertise, and attach a copy of your vita. General information about the online journal is available at http://www.apa.org/psyccritiques/.

Thanks for helping me make PsycCRITIQUES an indispensable resource for all psychologists.

CONFERENCES: National Multicultural Conference and Summit

CALL FOR PROGRAMS

NATIONAL MULTICULTURAL CONFERENCE AND SUMMIT

2007

The Psychology of Multiple Identities: Finding Empowerment in the Face of Oppression

Seattle, Washington,

Sheraton Hotel, Seattle, WA

January 24-26, 2007

DUE DATE FOR PROGRAM SUBMISSIONS:

Wednesday, May 31, 2006

Go to www.multiculturalsummit.org to submit a proposal

MISSION:

The mission of the National Multicultural Conference and Summit (NMCS) is to convene students, practitioners, and scholars in psychology and related fields to discuss human diversity and multiculturalism. Participants engage in a critical discourse on extant research and practice facing psychologists and educators. The objective of the 2007 NMCS is to explore the intersections of social identities, to understand how individuals, groups and communities are empowered, and to elevate frequently unheard voices. We believe that multiculturalism creates opportunities as well as challenges within the context of constantly negotiating multiple levels of privileges and oppressions. This conference is designed to explore how psychologists understand, intervene, and promote multiple identities. While we acknowledge the vast diversity of cultures within the dimensions of age, race, ethnicity, and geographic region, the 2007 conference specifically addresses the intersection of the dimensions of race and ethnicity, sexual orientation, social class, age, ability, and gender.
