STUDENTS: NEW Joint Doctoral Program in Adult Development & Aging
The University of Akron and Cleveland State University are currently recruiting students for our new joint Doctoral Program in Adult Development & Aging. Psychology (or related) undergraduate majors or individuals who have a Master's degree interested in pursuing doctoral training in basic and/or applied research in Adult Development & Aging are encouraged to apply.
Interdisciplinary and Intercollegiate Opportunities
¨ Students will have the opportunity to work with multiple faculty members across two different universities, giving them a broader base of training in the ever-growing area of basic and applied aging research.
¨ Faculty include core and ancillary members who have a vast array of research interests that fall under the following topics:
o Social and emotional functioning;
o Mental health issues;
o Neuropsychological functioning;
o Language & Cognitive changes;
o Biopsychological changes; &
o Psychosocial interventions for older adults.
Purpose of the Program is to Train Researchers to:
1) become experts in the subject of cognitive and behavioral functioning in adulthood and aging;
2) convey existing knowledge through teaching and generate new knowledge through basic and applied research; &
3) become involved with communities in addressing social issues related to aging.
Financial Information
Graduate and teaching assistantships are available that include tuition support and a stipend during the academic year.
Degree Requirements
¨ Students are required to take courses at both CSU and UA.
¨ Completion of 94 credit hours.
¨ Successful completion of written and oral comprehensive exams.
¨ Completion of a master's thesis and dissertation describing and interpreting results from student's research project.

¨ Applications are due January 15th (for both institutions).
¨ Applicants can apply to either The University of Akron or Cleveland State University.
¨ Applicants should send: transcripts, GRE scores, 3 letters of recommendation, and a personal letter discussing their research interests.
