Call for Public Comment: Guidelines for Preparing High School Psychology Teachers: Course-Based and Standards-Based Approaches
The American Psychological Association (APA) Board of Educational Affairs (BEA) Working Group on the Certification and Training of High School Psychology Teachers has posted draft Guidelines for Preparing High School Psychology Teachers: Course-Based and Standards-Based Approaches (Draft, 2011) for review and comment. This document outlines the recommended education and training a high school psychology teacher should have in order to teach the introductory high school psychology course, by providing course-based and standards-based models for teacher preparation.
In accordance with Association Rule 30-8, the Guidelines for Preparing High School Psychology Teachers: Course-Based and Standards-Based Approaches is being circulated to APA governance groups, APA Divisions, State Psychological Associations, other organizations in psychology and education, and members of the public. At the conclusion of public comment, additional revisions will be made to the document, which will then be circulated to all APA governance groups with a request that the Council of Representatives approve the Guidelines as Association policy.
