The Western Kentucky University Psychology Department (http://www.wku.edu/psychology/) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Department Head. WKU (www.wku.edu) is a leading American university with international reach located in Bowling Green, KY. Bowling Green is a vibrant community located 50 miles north of the metro Nashville area.
The Department of Psychology houses a strong, diverse faculty of 32 members from a variety of psychology disciplines. The department has a thriving undergraduate program of 600+ majors on the main and extended campuses, and productive master’s degree programs in Clinical Psychology, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Psychological Sciences, as well as a Specialist in Education in School Psychology program.
The Psychology Department Head is expected to manage departmental operations and undergraduate and graduate programs and represent the department in the college, on campus, and in the larger community. The Department Head will provide leadership that supports educating students to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse, multicultural, technology-driven society.
Required qualifications include:
· An earned Ph.D. in Psychology
· An academic record consistent with departmental standards for tenure and full professorship
· The ability to lead the department to sustained excellence in various forms of teaching delivery systems, research, and service
· Excellent interpersonal communication skills
· The ability to foster collaborative relationships between the department and constituent groups
· Professional objectives related to equity and diversity
· Outstanding organizational and management skills
To apply, submit a current curriculum vita, 3 letters of recommendation, copies of three recent and representative publications, copies of all academic transcripts, a cover letter describing how experience and perspectives match the stated qualifications, and a four-page statement of leadership philosophy. The statement of leadership philosophy should include discussion of how the applicant would move the department toward national recognition as a leader in scholarship and innovation.
